With a record placing the team 3rd or above in region the past four years, the lacrosse team is playing to continue on the streak. Four years ago they placed second, the next two years they placed third, and finally last year they placed first in region. This year they believe that they have a chance to place in region again.
Placing first in region last year was a huge accomplishment for the girls, and it’s something that they are striving to live up to this year. The ultimate struggle this year the team faced was building up, and getting more girls to try out. A smaller team tends to lead to greater challenges towards overall team strength.
There have been wins but more losses this year than they’ve had in a while, but the team is still standing strong. Their coach, Seth Jones, according to the team, has been one of the main reasons they are able to stay positive and keep going.
Aliyah Anderson, a senior on varsity, explains, “Our coach, Seth, is probably one of the best coaches on the planet earth. We do this thing where we have to visualize us scoring a goal, stopping the attack on defense. We always visualize before every single game; we just lay on the turf.”
The team’s efficiency this year has had more lows than highs, which has unfortunately led to some of their losses. Even with the team’s efficiency not being as great as previous years, there are still those small moments that make the difference. In a moment that was practiced for hours during practice, there was finally a time to put it in the game. It was a memorable moment, because the play went perfectly and it really proved to the girls that the more they trust each other, the greater things they can accomplish.
There are all sorts of players this year, from first-year seniors and freshman to third and fourth year seniors. No matter how long they’ve been playing, everyone on the team has been putting in their all to make it the best season ever. They have spent time outside of school, during their freetime all to practice and get better. The girls truly put the definition to eat, sleep, repeat.

Ellie Mellott is a senior this year and this is her first year playing and still she works as hard as everyone else. Mellott says, “I just want to become better, I know it’s my first year, but I’ve been practicing at home. All my freetime is lacrosse because I’d be down to play in college but I’m still considering where I want to go.”
Each member of the team is dedicated to improving. The changes in the team this year has caused a rough season, but no matter what, the team has been doing their best. Everyone is making an effort to win, in the end though, their growth has happened off the field. Whether that be practicing at home in their freetime, or talking to a captain about their worries. Everything they’ve done this year has built up the team from the rough patch they started at to the family they are starting to form.
Going into the postseason, which begins next week on May 13th, the Ladywolves look to lean on the assists of Kate Jenkins and the scoring power of Azlyn Williams.
