Childhood Store Closing Doors

Everyone’s favorite childhood store, Toys “R” Us, just announced it is joining the long list of big company chains that are going out of business. After going more than 5 billion dollars in debt, the store had to file for bankruptcy just ahead of the upcoming holidays. Like many others, Toys “R” Us couldn’t keep up with online leading competitor, Amazon. It says it will keep about 1600 stores open for a time, but know one knows how long the store can afford to stay alive.

A new study shows that an old engineering technique called cavitation could lead to new research in brain injuries. This technique deals with resting water and they believe that amount of resting water in your body affects the amount of water in your brain. With more fluids in your brain the less the chance of a brain injury.

Cracking down on Poaching

Deer hunting season in Utah is soon approaching. Wildlife officials are on the lookout and hoping to catch poachers this year. To do this they are setting up robotic deer in the illegal places like private property and near roads. The hope is to catch hunters shooting the deer then ticket them for shooting. The decoy will be placed in Southern Utah, where most of the deer hunting in our state occurs. Poaching is very prevalent and can hopefully be stopped or slowed.

Plane Crash in Roy

In local news a single engine plane crashed in Roy on Tuesday shortly after taking off. The pilot had to make an emergency landing and hit a car, luckily both the driver and pilot survived with no major injuries. The plane crash was near 45oo South and 1900 West and around 1:40 p.m. The pilot of the plane was 63-years-old and the driver was a 43-year-old woman.

New names added to 9/11 memorial in New York

Responders are memorialized with victims of 9/11 attack.

In Hempstead New York 592 names are being added to a memorial for the 9/11. These names are firefighters, police officers and anyone who helped clean up the rubble. This memorial is on the beach of long island where many watched the attack happen. This memorial also lists 3000 people who died in the attack and a 30 ft beam from the world trade center and a tree that survived ground zero.

Lawsuit against Trump Administration for reversal of DACA

DACA Protest

The Trump Administration has been heavily criticized for their reversal of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and now four states; Minnesota, Maryland, Maine and California are in the process of suing President Donald Trump and his administration.

The program was created under the Obama Administration back in 2012, and it worked to protect the children of undocumented immigrants who came to U.S. in their youth from deportation and allowed them to work legally in the United States.

17 state attorney generals from the four states have filed lawsuits in a Brooklyn federal court saying Trump’s decision violated constitutional protections, specifically the Fifth Amendment, for Dreamers.

Disaster strikes in Mexico

Earthquake graph

Last night before midnight, and magnitude-8.1 quake hit Mexico City and Guatemala City and at least 29 people have died.

It has been said it was the strongest earthquake to hit Mexico in 100 years. The epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean, 74 miles from the Pacific coast.

Mexico is really taking a hit with this earthquake on the southern coast and heavy rains from Hurricane Katia hitting the east.

New “concussion pill” to be released in 2025

With backlash in recent years for CTE, many of medical professionals are searching for a treatment, and they may have finally found one. Doctor William Korinek of Astrocyte Pharmaceuticals recently spoke on a new “concussion pill’ that could be coming out in 2025. The pill is meant directly for football players, specifically ones in the NFL.

This pill, now in it’s animal testing phase, could speed up recovery and and ease long term brain damage. While scepticism is heavy, hopes are also high in the football community.
