Over two dozen killed in Texas shooting

This last Sunday, in Sutherland Springs, Texas,  just outside of San Antonio, more than two dozen people were killed in a mass church shooting.  The shooter was killed by two men who lived near the church where it happened.  The shooter had a long list of troubling episodes the last few years of his life, including an escape from a mental health facility, in 2012, after being caught on an air force base attempting to carry out death threats.

Recently the Boy Scouts Of America have announced that they will be allowing girls into their Cub Scout program. This means older girls will have the opportunity to earn the highest achievement, the Eagle Scout.

Green Ribbon Week

This week was international Mental Health Awareness week.

Local elementary schools have been tying green ribbons along fences and trees to notice those who do have mental health problems.

Buzzfeed has had mental health related articles dedicated to mental health week. Their articles have been about depression, anxiety, therapy, and insecurities. At the bottom of all these articles they have a place for the National Suicide Lifeline and a link for other international lifelines.

Family released after being captive by the Taliban

An American woman and her Canadian husband and their three children were released after years from being captive from a network ties of the Taliban. They were traveling in Afghanistan but authorities don’t know why they were traveling in the country, but everyone was safe and sound after the release.

Fall Festivities Begin

Happy fall ya’ll! It’s officially October and many Halloween activities in neighboring cities have popped up. If you’re looking for any fall festivities, then maybe you could try West Haven’s Green Acres corn maize, or Frightmares at Lagoon in Farmington. There is also Halloween Insanity in Syracuse and various haunted houses in Salt Lake. On October 28th, there will be a witches tea party and the annual zombie crawl on 25th street in Ogden.

Twitter testing out new character limit

Last week Twitter started testing 280 Character Tweets, doubling the previous character limit in an effort to help users who tweet in certain languages, like Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, etc., be more expressive. Users who are tweeting in Japanese, Korean and Chinese are able to share their thoughts with room to spare, they won’t be seeing this change anytime soon on their timelines. Although this is only being tested within a small group at the moment, Twitter may put this new Tweet length in effect for the rest of its users soon.

Utah Jazz Upgraded Stadium

The Utah Jazz just unveiled their new and improved arena earlier this week ahead of the approaching NBA season. With about 18300 new cushioned seat and 400 more TV screens, the stadium was due for an upgrade because of the growing fan size. Also four new restaurants along with new bathrooms were added to the stadium. A select few fans got to tour the stadium and get a close up and detailed look.
