Summer activities! for introverts

If you’re an introvert and you’re bored during the summer, here’s some activity ideas to keep you entertained! Other than the obvious suggestion of video games, here’s some easy and affordable things that you can do during the summer!

  • Learn to crochet or knit! 

Learning a new ability or skill could be a helpful solution to boredom. Having something to do while watching tv, listening to music or if you just want something fun to do can be a great way to kill time. 

Mrs. Walker, sign language teacher and avid knitter, suggests starting with a kit that you can get from somewhere like Walkmart. She continues that Youtube is filled with videos for starting out crocheting. Making a washcloth or dish towel is a popular option for beginners. 

With crocheting, if you get good enough, you could sell your creations for some money on the side!

  • Read new books!

If you’re an avid reader, or you are still picking up the hobby, then pick up some new books to knock out over the summer! You can read outside under a tree to feel whimsical, or if you’re a comic fan you can check out some of those. Even if you like to have audiobooks, find some to listen to  on Youtube or Audible, you can even do something like baking or cleaning while you work.

Mr. Hobbs, Fremont’s librarian, has plenty of recommendations if you can’t get a library card or just prefer online. Sora is a good option, you can get the Beehive Library Consortium on Sora and that will get you most online books (and audiobooks) from the libraries. 

If you do have a library card. You can download the libby app and gain access to  all the books from your library ready for you to read online!

  • Find some new shows or movies to watch!

Although streaming services can be expensive, it can still be fun to watch something random! Pluto TV, Crackle, Roku, and Tubi are among the top free streaming services; although, each service comes with ads as a tradeoff. If you’re looking for something specific, search up the category you want and Google will provide. You never know, you just might find your new favorite show! 

  • Make decor for your room!

If you’re not the type to be going outside a whole lot during the summer, then this one’s for you! You can go onto Google or Pinterest and find some cute decor DIYs to use in your room! There’s suggestions so fantastic that you’ll never want to leave! Who even needs sunlight? The indoors were made for a reason!

Miss Funk, the art teacher, has recommended going to the dollar store, they have some decent and affordable art supplies to use. She also recommends going to Michael’s because they can have discounts and sales, especially around holidays. You can go thrifting and paint over a picture and make it your own!

There are so many different options to make your summer full of fun even if you’re more introverted! The key is to stay active and engaged so you can come back next year refreshed and ready for a new year. One thing remains, how will you spend your summer?
