Trump tweets during Obama’s last national speech
President Obama’s State of the Union Address painted a picture of the future for Americans after seven years with him in office. Obama gave his last national speech before the attention turned to the presidential race.
Donald Trump Tweeted about the speech saying, “The State of the Union Speech was one of the most boring, rambling and non-substantive I have heard in a long time. New leadership fast!”
Trump was taking part in a campaigning tactic referred to as “Mudslinging”. This is when an opponent shines negative light on another opponent, instead of emphasizing themselves in a positive way.
“When [Trump] started a mudslinging campaign, he also got other campaigners to do it,” Junior Ryan “Chuck” Johnson said. “The only one who hasn’t participated in it is Bernie Sanders.”
Negative campaigning is common, and often times does work.
“We are so ignorant, and so shallow, that we are swayed by ridiculous things like that [negative spotlight],” said Mr. Madsen, Government teacher. “We are swayed by emotional responses to things, and politicians know that.”
Due to the Iowa Caucus electoral event on February 1, Trump stands in second behind Ted Cruz by 3.3%. While Hillary Clinton stands in first Democratically by 49.9%.
As of February 19, Trump has 32.9% of the polling data, which puts him in the lead by 14.8%. According to RealClearPolitics.
