Fresh Powder for the Skiing/Snowboarding Group

This isn’t the first time Fremont has had a ski and snowboard club in over a decade. Back when the school opened in 1994, Mr. Erisoty, Fremont’s automotive teacher, started the ski and snowboarding club, which ended up being discontinued in 2019. During that time it was considered a club, and there were tons of great opportunities for those involved.

This year we finally have a ski and snowboarding group again all thanks to Kennedy and Hadley Hansen, which are siblings and both juniors.. Kennedy and Hadley are the presidents of the Ski and Snowboard Group this year. Mr. Erisoty is the teacher advisor for the group. Without Kennedy and Hadley, this group would not likely exist this year.

Kennedy Hansen explains, “Hadley and I started this group to help get people together with similar interests.”She continues, “This group allows students an opportunity to get on the mountain at an affordable price and to have fun with friends and be physically active!”

There are many great reasons to join this group, for example, members will get into resorts for a great discount, and they will be able to join  with friends and make new ones. They are planning on going to Snowbaisin, Powder Mountain, Nordic, and Beaver. The group will also participate in avalanche training, which requires someone to be buried in the snow and the trainees must locate and uncover them. Anyone can join and they  do not have to be an experienced skier or snowboarder to be in this group.  Everyone is welcome to join; they love people that are brand new to this sport.

There are currently about 30 members of this group, Kennedy and Hadley state, “We are very grateful to have these students interested in supporting the group and have an interest in alpine sports like we do.”

The Ski and Snowboard Group is new to this year; and the Hansen’s state it definitely will be here for next year, and hopefully here for many years to come. This is a group that students have wanted to be revived  at Fremont for many years since its discontinuation in 2010.

Overall, the Ski and Snowboard Group is a very exciting thing to have at Fremont this year and the members  are thrilled to finally have it back!

Kennedy and Hadley explain, “We are grateful for this experience in getting the group back up and running.” They hope many more students will join this group and will want to be a part of it. Kennedy and Hadley express, “A huge shoutout to Mr. Erisoty for supporting us and making this group a possibility at Fremont. A big thank you to Mrs. Mitchell and the faculty involved in allowing the students to participate in Fremont’s Ski and Snowboard Group!” To join the group, please talk to Mr. Erisoty, Kennedy, or Hadley Hansen.
