Fremont’s auto shop has been an active class for the last 31 years since the school opened in 1994. Erisoty is the current teacher of the auto classes and has been the teacher for all 31 years, Erisoty opened the school and is one of the only original teachers still left at Fremont.
There are a total of 7 classes taught in the auto shop, and they range from engine classes all the way to suspension and steering.
One of the current ongoing projects that they are working on is tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) in tires. You learn all about TPMS and you even learn how to fix and diagnose issues relating to TPMS. That is just one of the many projects they will work on.
Everyday is something new, and everyday they’re learning different things in the autoclass. Some of the other current projects in the auto shop include oil, brakes, and steering etc.
The auto shop classes will learn basic automotive skills and life lessons. You will learn how to change brake pads, oil, oil filters, tires, balance and mount tires, and many other automotive skills that they will use for the rest of their life.
The auto classes are one of the most popular classes that are offered at Fremont, and every year there are hundreds of students that wish to get into the auto classes. Alicia Mitchell is the principal at Fremont High School and she described the automotive classes as “a very popular class and the numbers of students wanting to take the class every year is off the charts”, Mitchell also goes on to say that “the auto classes are always waitlisted because of the high demand.”
The auto classes are very popular for many reasons. Mrs. Mitchell explains that “I believe the auto shop is very popular for the content, but I also believe the auto shop is very popular because of the teacher.” Erisoty has been very recognized by students over the years for being such a fantastic teacher. Mitchell goes on to say “Erisoty is an awesome teacher and kids are drawn to a teacher that is fantastic”.
In the auto shop there are about 4 cars that students work on, and all of these cars are donated for education purposes. Fremont is yet to see an electric car, but that may not be for long. Electric cars are now in the Weber School District curriculum and are even at some surrounding schools like Westfield High School. Erisoty states that “next year we might get a Tesla, on loan from Weber State University”.
Mitchell also explains that “Erisoty is one of the best teachers in the district as far as understanding the electric side.” Meaning that if you are into the electric side of automotive, this may just be the class to take next year and have a good teacher to learn from.
Overall, the auto shop is one of the most popular classes at Fremont and students have loved this class for many years. The auto shop classes learn basic automotive skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
