DECA/FBLA are working towards success

Awarding more than $200,000 in scholarships and offering scholarship programs, DECA and FBLA started 75 years ago. Involving competitions that include presenting to one judge as well as test taking, DECA and FBLA offer amazing scholarship opportunities for winning in one of the 50+ events you can choose to compete in.

Senior student and president of DECA at Fremont, Rachel Bee with DECA help has started her business as a highschool student. Her brand is Infusion Hero, a comforting hoodie to wear while in the hospital. With a zipper on the sleeve so doctors can perform injections in the arm.

Doing DECA has not only helped Rachel promote her business, but has helped her with public speaking. Not to mention with Infusion Hero she made top twenty in the entrepreneurship competition at internationals last year.

Teamwork is a must have in these clubs, junior student Daisy Hillain reflects, “I like working with a group because I have a very creative mindset when it comes to working with people and then I normally pair up with somebody who has a numbers mindset so we can work together without lacking either components of what a project should be.”

Mrs. Allred, a Fremont DECA alumni that went to Nationals in Atlanta during high school; has now come back to teaching marketing and is a DECA and FBLA advisor. Specifically Allred’s running FBLA.

DECA offers real life situations to be worked through, giving experience of what it might be like in the future if working in a business. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people. This is especially true when going to state, a competition that everyone can compete in for a chance to go to ICDC. During state, you get to meet people from schools all over and if you make it to ICDC you get to meet people from all over the world.

Rachel Bee excitedly talks about meeting people, “You show up to competitions and you just get to go around and socialize with all the other schools, get to learn about what projects they’re doing and it’s so cool because some of the ideas just blow my mind.”

As DECA and FBLA advance into the year, they are still open to new members. You can talk with Mr. Pollard, Mrs. Pollard, or Mrs. Allred and pay before the competition. Region has passed and coming up is the state competitions. The two day DECA competition is February 20th-21st and the three day FBLA competition is March 10th-12th, both held at the Davis Conference Center.
