The fascinating Work of Silverline Drill Team

By: Hadlee Larsen

From performing during halftime shows to dressing up in fun costumes, the Fremont drill team is dedicated, and it shows. With tryouts in March, camps in the summer and comp season December through February, drill is one of two all-year sports, which means the team is constantly kept on their feet while improving, laughing and working hard every day.

One of the main focuses in drill is unity- not only as dancers, but also as a team. While doing complex movements the dancers strive to achieve a synchronized look. Typically a drill team will have good harmony with each other as one of their main focuses while performing is to be in unison while dancing. It takes much commitment and motivation to achieve this style.

A Sophomore and Silverline dancer, Rachel McGaha, states “Everyone’s really dedicated. Everyone really wants to stay in the dances and is just really determined,” The team is very motivated to constantly improve their skills whether it be for performing at football games or competing in one of the hardest categories of drill in the district.

Reece Vining, a senior and captain on Silverline, talking about one of her favorite parts of being on the team says “I think for me it’s performances. Just being able to be on the floor with your team working together and having fun”.

Being a coach and dancer for the Silverline brings along lots of fun memories and moments such as taking awkward family photos for the team pictures.

A senior dancer and captain on the team, Abby Moyes, expresses “I feel like we have such a good bond together and we’re so close and I think we all challenge each other…I love it because it pushes me, and we are pushing each other, and we are growing together.”

Coach Sarah Hagadorn states, “I value them like they are one of my own so even when I don’t see them they’re on my mind all the time. They are like my kids. They become my family.”

Hagadorn continues that the team had grown leaps and bounds since they had started the season and will continue to do so.

Even though having almost a full team of rookies can be challenging, that didn’t stop the Silverline as they stepped up to the challenge. They have put in the time and effort to work hard and continue to advance their skills, not only individually but as a team. With all of the created friendships and devotion, the Silverline drill team has and will continue to improve while having fun. Their season continues with their next competition on January 18th at Weber High. Good luck Silverline!
