Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is experiencing great success this year. At their region competition in February, they walked away with numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals. But what is FCCLA all about?
Victories so demanding that nary a soul dare attempted to steal their nearly full medalist sweep across every category! All accomplished while being Family-(Career and Community Leaders of America)-friendly.
What beings of such capabilities are worthy to join in on the complete and utter demolition of the opposing schoolchildren? Charlotte Fullmer, an officer of FCCLA, says, “If you have a passion for learning about the community and how you can help, this is the club for you!”
In preparation for this sparkly clean sweep, the students in FCCLA choose a topic to make a project concerning different areas in the FACS field. The participants then share the progress they’ve made in their subject with the other participants and club advisors. Advice and suggestions for improvement are shared, and their projects are finished by the time the next competition comes around.
At competitions, known as “Students Taking Action with Recognition,” (STAR), the competitors perform a presentation about their chosen topic to judges who then rate it with different criteria in mind. As for the subjects to select for their design, a few options include Nutrition & Wellness, Early Childhood Education, Culinary Arts, Fashion Design, and lots more. Of course, if you choose to take part in the Culinary Arts category, be ready for the judges to have a few bites of your food. Sadly, participants don’t get to keep their dishes to share with their friends or the writers at the Paw Print.
But, it isn’t just the insane amount of victories FCCLA gets that makes them so impressive. It’s the fact that, after their awe-inspiring wins, they treat their victims with kindness and an attitude of professionality.
Nora Butler, the club’s president and leader of Fremont’s deities of victory, comments on this, saying, “…it’s a very supportive and uplifting environment that teaches you new skills that are applicable for life outside of high school.”
Once again, if you want to continue to help FCCLA dominate other schools while treating others with genuine respect and gaining life-long experience, the family-friendly FCCLA club is the path to sprint down.
