When most people have the thought of weightlifting, the first thing they picture is an athlete training to improve performance. While lifting does help athletes, its benefits go far beyond just sports. Lifting is just as much about mental resilience as it is about physical strength. Weightlifting provides self improvement, confidence, and discipline.
A female senior lifter, Gabriela Archuletta, found that lifting was a great way to grow beyond physical strength, “I especially loved the way Coach Black ran the class and workouts. I learned valuable principles I can apply to my life.”
Weightlifting, for most people, isn’t just about getting stronger–It’s also about setting and achieving goals while staying consistent and building confidence. Everyone lifts to achieve their own personal goals.
Andy Barlow started lifting for football, but continued to lift even after quitting the sport. Barlow reflects, “Since I’ve started lifting, I’ve gotten into the best shape I’ve ever been in. I’m generally happier and a lot more confident. It’s weird, it’s kind of like an addiction. I look the best I ever have, but I still want to keep improving.”
Beyond athletics, weightlifting can help with small everyday tasks you might not think of. Lifting can help with doing things like lifting groceries, carrying heavy boxes, and even standing for long periods of time. Which can help in the workplace. The strength gained from lifting can improve joint stability, reduce injuries, and enhance overall durability. Most importantly though, it teaches discipline and mental toughness. It might not be someone’s favorite thing but it’s a good experience in the long run.
So, whether you’re an athlete looking for a way to improve or just someone wanting to feel stronger and more confident, weightlifting offers something for everyone. The sport is not just about how much you can lift, but about how you can make yourself the best version of you.
If you’re looking for a semester class that can help build your confidence, weightlifting is very much suggested for all grades and students. The class is very important for strengths and to feel ready about daily stress.
