On February 7th, the Mr. Fremont assembly was live!. The nominees went through chaotic games as the assembly shook the gym and the halls roared with the cheers of students hoping that their favorite would be victorious. The contestants each did wonderfully in their own unique categories. Their rousing speeches and acts of valor to get support from their fellow students made for a greatly entertaining show.
A little history of this tradition. Fremont High School has consistently participated in this competition ever since the school was created, originally coordinated by the NHS.
Principal Alicia Mitchell expressed why we do Mr. Fremont, saying, “I love the tradition behind it because it helps to build school spirit. I also love that it gives our boys a chance to be crowned since we don’t have a Homecoming King.”
The final eight contestants were all gathered into the commons or gym to win four consecutive challenges throughout the school-appointed Mr. Fremont week. Then, at the end of the week, they were put in front of the entire school to compete against the others in order to win over as much support as possible. Throughout the week, they did wheel cart races, painting, karaoke, cake decorating, and, finally, the assembly.
A few of the contestants were the fan favorites, and differentiated by the way the students cheered for them during the assembly. The crowd was loud and you could tell that it was boosting the contestants’ confidence by how they performed during their acts and talents. Some of them even had friends or family join them.
Ben Calvert, Ridge Lindley, Clayton Atkinson, Kimball Gibson, Zach Masters, Dylan Bruce, and Jace Hadley— the eight nominees.
Zach Masters, a Senior nominated from Student Government, expressed his feelings of what Mr. Fremont meant to him, saying, “I think that Mr. Fremont, Ridge, represents Fremont well. He’s a good kid and he’s involved in the school.”
During the assembly, the nominees had their best dressed contest, all of them looking clean and professional in their suits. They all got asked three questions tailored to their personalities. Then, the student government held up pieces of paper with QR codes to the students to vote for their favorite candidate.
After a moment of suspense, the Mr. Fremont winner was finally crowned: Ridge Lindley.
The winner, Ridge Lindley, nominated by boys wrestling, expressed,“I was surprised by that. I wasn’t sure if I was gonna win, and by then I was like ‘Okay, this is really fun!’ I’m glad that I won, but I would’ve been glad either way.”
All of the contestants were amazing, their different talents and personalities shining bright. But, the real star of the show was Ridge Lindley, who walked out of Fremont High School, a winner: Mr. Fremont of 24’-25’.
