Fill those blanks in your Summer Schedule with something beneficial!

Summer is just around the corner and you might just have big plans for it whether it is with friends, vacations with family or even just sleeping until noon every day. And let’s be honest, who hasn’t been counting down the days until we get to just have fun for a consecutive two and a half months? But, have you considered getting a summer job?

Benefits

Jobs are more than just their sweet paychecks, a summer job is the perfect way to be  able to learn important workplace skills early on. Skills like coordination, time management, customer service, money management and a good work ethic are just a few. All of these skills are going to help you in whatever career choice you decide to go into, and it is better to learn these earlier on than to start a job and have to learn these things when you are an adult.

Also having a previous job can look incredible on future job and college applications, having proof that you are capable and able to maintain a job shows the interviewer or colleague that those skills you’ve gained can make you a valuable asset.

Jobs

Job hunting can be hard, but here are a few places locally that are hiring teenagers this summer season.

Retail & Automotive

  • AutoZone (16+ part time sales associate, hands on learning experience, no prior experience needed)

Food & Beverage

  • Chipotle Mexican Grill
  • Costa Vida
  • Del Taco
  • Fizz Drinks
  • McDonald’s
  • Swig
  • Taco Bell
  • Warren’s

Convenience Stores & Services

  • Kent’s Market
  • Maverick
  • Take 5 Car Wash

These are just some of the possibilities you can pick from, but you should definitely look more into the job before you consider just to make sure it’s right for you and what you’re looking for! Certain job hunting apps such as ‘Indeed’, ‘Career Builder’ or ‘Glassdoor’ could be a good place to start.

However these aren’t the only jobs. Say you don’t like the demand of working for a boss or don’t have any desire to put on a uniform to go to work. There are other options that could be worth considering. Such as;

  • Amature car mechanics
  • Babysitting
  • Car washing
  • ‘Cottage food business’ (Selling baked goods)
  • Dog training
  • Dog walking
  • House cleaning and/ or house sitting
  • Local handy work
  • Mowing neighbors lawns
  • Starting a training program for kids of sorts (Instrumental/singing lessons, art classes, baking, ect.)
  • Pet sitting

And of course many many more, if you can turn that skill of yours into some sort of business than I say do it! Many of these jobs are mostly dependent on you and you have freedom to say what happens most of the time, however these jobs aren’t 100% guaranteed to get you good money but if you aren’t wanting a demanding job this might just be the best option for you!

Remember, summer is what YOU make it, and the best way to make your summer the most beneficial is to get some sort of job. And if one kid with a triangle head could do more in one summer than most of us will ever do in our entire life, you have the capability to do something great! So now the only question is; What are you going to do this summer?
