With everyone looking for a spot at the state competition, both teams have finally hit the mat. The Fremont wrestlers have created their own family that’s ready to inspire and work hard for each other.
As soon as someone puts their all into a match, it motivates the rest of the team to work just as hard, if not harder. Players want their chance to step into the spotlight and win, to have that overwhelming feeling of pride and accomplishment.
Senior wrestler,Taylor Earl, credits her wrestling family. Earl says, “It gives me a reason to get up in the morning and it makes me feel a part of something important. And those are things I’ve been looking for my whole life.”
Families, friendships, and strong bonds have been formed this year. Each wrestler is looking for a strong, long-lasting friendship, and they’re finding that this season.
Captains are looking for a way to lead their teams into state, no matter where the team started. They’re all leaving their hearts out on the mat.
Girl’s wrestling captain, senior Burklee Heslop, brings thought to winning, “That need to win should feel like breathing.”
With the number two ranked wrestler in state, senior Ridge Lindley, the team looks up to him for guidance and motivation to get where he is today. Lindley states, “It’s my last year, so I get to go all out and leave nothing else behind.”
Not only has wrestling been about finding a family and friends, this year, but it has also been as much of a mental challenge as it has been a physical challenge. It has been forcing each member of the team to face their flaws and work past them. It has been physically challenging to get up and get going, but overall it has more benefits.
Junior wrestler Gage Messerly, shares, “It made me a stronger person mentally and physically, its showed me flaws that I have and I’ve had, it’s really helped me to fix them.”
With state sneaking around the corner in February, our wrestlers are doing their best in motivating the others while trying to motivate themselves and prepare. The Fremont wrestling families are only growing as they continue into the season. Everyone is ready to face the challenges, to get their spot at state!
