Patrick Fishburn

Former Fremont student nominated for the PGA tour!

One of Fremont’s past talented alumni has pursued his dreams and become a participant in the PGA tour coming up this January in Hawaii.Joining the PGA tour is not an easy feat, it is a long and grueling process to even be considered for the tour and the stakes of this tournament are very high.

Patrick Fishburn has been golfing since the young age of 3, and he fell in love with the sport fast. His family showed much support and let him explore the game on his own rather than putting him in any lessons so he did not feel any pressure, this likely contributed to his love for the sport.

Mrs. Pollard, a business teacher at Fremont, is his older sister as well as his former high school golf coach and shared insight of Patrick’s dedication throughout the years. “By 5 years old he would go over to Toad’s and spend like 10 hours a day hitting balls and practicing,” she said.

She shared how their father would always take them out to the course and Patrick would hit and play with plastic clubs as a toddler to start. His career started taking off not soon after he got to Fremont and joined the golf, as well as basketball team. After graduating in 2011, Patrick eventually received a full ride scholarship to BYU for his skills.

A short intermission was taken from the sport for his LDS mission to Tennessee, though he jumped right back into the game as soon as he returned heading to the Canadian tour in 2018. He won the championship which qualified him for  the US Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA tour was not far behind.

Maintaining enough status to qualify for the PGA tour is a major accomplishment. It requires dedication and an immaculate skill level in the sport of golf.

Coach Bailiff, our current golf coach here at Fremont, comments on this accomplishment.

“It is an amazing accomplishment to make it because there’s only 250 in the world that end up being on the PGA tour and each year if you don’t perform the bottom 125 of the 250 have to requalify the next year. So you can lose your status in one year if you don’t play well enough and get kicked out onto those lower tours then have to requalify all over again. Just to make it onto the tour in the first place is incredible.”

The PGA tour has welcomed Patrick to show off his lifelong passion and we are all excited to see his performance beginning in January 2024. Good luck to Patrick Fishburn the silverwolves’ support for his success is All In!
